Somers Equestrian Center was opened in 1995 by the Somers Family. The Somers Family have been showing and very successfully Training Horses since 1991 in the Lake Charles area. D.J., Lou & Deke Somers and Chrissy Somers Nail have won numerous awards across the United States as well as in Canada. Somers Equestrian Center teaches and trains Students and Horses in all Disciplines. Somers Horse Boarding Program boasts the finest Horse care in Southwest Louisiana. Somers Equestrian Center's focus is on Education, Proper Riding Techniques, Safety, Proper Horse Care and, most importantly, FUN!

Lou Somers
Owner, Trainer, Instructor, Certified Master Horseman thru LSU, Louisiana Equine Council Member and NAHRA Certified Clinician, is the driving force of Somers Equestrian Center. She started riding competitively in 1989 with her first Hunter Jumper Horse. Lou later went on to obtain U.S. National Reserve Champion in the Hunter Pleasure division as well as Renai World Cup Reserve Champion with The Somers Family owned Dutch Harness Horse Stallion, who was imported from Holland. After moving from Cleveland, Ohio to Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1990, Lou purchased her first Arabian Horse. Her Horse Show abilities, skills and experience flourished throughout the years. Lou and her family have consistently won numerous U.S. Championships, Reserve Championships, U.S. Top Ten and Regional Top Five Honors throughout the United States and Canada. Lou is an accomplished Rider and Riding Instructor, who remains focused and intense on her students and many Horses. Lou is a member of The Renai Registry, International Arabian Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Pinto Horse Association of America, American Paint Horse Association, National Show Horse Registry and The United States Equestrian Federation.

D. J. Somers
Owner, Instructor and Horse lover, has a superior eye for Horses. He can easily determine a variety of Equine Problems. He is also a wonderful rider who has won many prestigious awards throughout the U.S. and Canada with his National Champion Trail Horse. D.J. gives many Riding Lessons and is great with both our Children and Adult students. D.J. is our "Mr. Fix it." He can easily repair anything and he is counted on to do just this! D.J. also adds Beauty and Mystique to Somers Equestrian Center with the Family's Bird Sanctuary. The Somers Farm is home to over 300 "Exotic Birds" that D.J. hand raises and feeds. His claim to fame, however, is his love of "Lawn Maintenance," better known as grass manicuring. The proof is in Somers Equestrian Center's beautifully Landscaped and Manicured 30 plus acres!

Chrissy Somers Nail
Owner, Trainer, Multi - U.S. National Champion is Somers Equestrian Center's trouble shooter and mediator. Chrissy is a terrific problem solver and keeps everyone at the Farm on the right path, going forward! Chrissy is married with a 2 year old baby girl, Marley Somer Nail. She has been riding and stayed in the "Winners Circle" since she was 12 years old. Chrissy has been U.S. National Champion seven times, not to mention her numerous Regional and Canadian National Championship achievements. At 13 years of age, Chrissy was Regional Champion 4-H in Halter Showmanship in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a very talented Trainer, Instructor and Rider. Chrissy works wonderfully with Riders of all ages.

Deke Somers
Owner, Certified Master Horseman through LSU, Trainer and Certified Equine Adjustor. Deke has been U.S. National Champion, Canadian International Reserve Champion as well as achieving numerous U.S. Top Ten and Regional Top Five awards. Deke's Training abilities as well as his Equine Adjustment techniques are uncanny. He can spot soreness, and adjust Horses of any Breed, making them perform to the best of their ability. Deke Trains, Instructs, Rides and owns several Arabians, Paints and Quarter Horses .

Mr. Lawrence
Farm manager, and our Jack-of-all-Trades, manages Somers Equestrian Center with great pride and enthusiasm. Mr. Lawrence loves and manages all of our Horses and their care. If you need something, "Mr. L," as we at Somers Equestrian Center lovingly refer to him, can and will try to do whatever is asked. He can fix most anything and does so with a willing spirit. Mr. Lawrence Thibodaux has been here at Somers for over 6 years. Mr. L's management skills are unsurpassed and frequently praised by our many clients. He is truly a part of our extended family here at Somers.

Sarah Beth
“CB” as Sarah is affectionately know here at Somers is an excellent, Rider, Instructor, Groomer and Horse Show Manager. CB has been riding horses since she was a small child. At Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana, a world renowned Military Training School, CB was a Mounted Calvary Commander, as well as a member of the Polo, Cross-Country and Jumping Teams. Her knowledge of Horses is truly amazing. CB is a must for Lou and all of our Horse Show Clients here at Somers Equestrian Center. She is a true asset to our team here at Somers.

Kameron
Kameron Geautreaux started riding here at Somers Equestrian Center when she was about 7 years old. She has grown not only in height, but in her wisdom of Horses, her versatile Riding abilities and in her loving and respectful attitude. Cameron helps Train and Exercises many Horses for Somers Equestrian Center. Cameron has won numerous awards in the Speed Event divisions throughout Louisiana and the U.S. She is a Jr. Officer at the Silver Spurs Riding Club here in Sulphur, Louisiana. Cameron’s patience with children of all ages is amazing. She is the head Counselor at the Summer Camp program here at Somers Equestrian Center. Cameron has now qualified for the Pro Rodeo Circuit.

Lionel
Lionel is our Daily Stall Maintenance Man. He can ride and train a Horse with a willing and enthusiastic ability. Lionel is respectful and completely helpful here at Somers Equestrian Center. Lionel is a caring and extremely thorough asset at Somers Equestrian Center.

Spencer Ebert
Spencer is our Weekend and Summer Stall Maintenance Man as well as Horse feeding and care specialist. Spencer is conscientious, caring, respectful and has worked for Somers for the past 4 years. Spencer takes his time and gets to know all of the Horses at Somers in his own, very caring way.

Anthony "Papa" Ebert
Papa, as he is affectionately known here at Somers Equestrian Center is our master mechanic and Farm Maintenance Man who takes great pride in his work. Papa loves people and at 75 years of age, he still works most every day.
